Introducing Alyssa Stevens, the visionary artist who helped Suprsketch take the first bold step into the realm of art + tech. Amidst fierce competition, she was the perfect choice with her unparalleled drive, creativity, style, and commitment to excellence. Join us in reviewing Alyssa's exhibition as she tested out the SuprCanvas prototype technology. Immerse yourself in the full exhibit above (compiled over 2 weeks of live creation) and learn more about her experience in her own words below...
🍌BanAnakin:
How would you explain SuprSketch in your own words?
🖼️Alyssa:
I really like the way they describe themselves: kind of as an Onlyfans for artists. I like that because everyone knows that Onlyfans is a subscription model and that's essentially like what SuprSketch is. People can subscribe to view an artist's canvas in real time. A digital canvas with an artist creating on it. The subscriber can view it in real time on their end. That’s basically what it is.
🍌BanAnakin:
Yeah, exactly. I like to make the joke that, with both of them, you don't have to wear pants and it's better if you don't.
🖼️Alyssa:
Haha, true!
🍌BanAnakin:
How would you describe the experience of drawing on the SuprCanvas? I'm curious about this because every artist has their style or ritual or way of creating thing whether it's digitally on an iPad or traditionally with paint or another medium. Everyone has their own art-making setup, so I’m curious what the experience is like…
🖼️Alyssa:
Yeah, so I when we first started out the exhibit there were some technical difficulties with it (SuprSketch is still in the prototype phase) So I started out from my laptop and I don't have a mouse or anything so I was creating just from my trackpad and it was like such a challenge but over a few days it was it was cool to see how my style was able to evolve. Once they finished tweaking the code I was back on the iPad, which felt a lot more natural, and you feel like you have more control when you're using an Apple pencil. So, there were some challenges, but I think, overall, it was a really good experience and the technology itself is really easy to figure out. Any artist would be able to figure it out quickly. It's very intuitive and easy to use.
🍌BanAnakin:
With your experience, do you have any feedback for the SuprSketch team? Cause it is prototype technology and they are upgrading and adding to it daily; are there any kind of features or anything you would like to see to improve the experience for the creator or collector?
🖼️Alyssa:
Well, let’s see. From the artist's perspective I like the technology itself, there were some parts that weren't Supr smooth (pun intended?), certain things, like it was hard to zoom into the corners. I don't think you could save certain colors the way you can on procreate.I mentioned these things to Aaron (SuprSketch Founder) and he's very adamant on implementing changes into the technology to make it a great process for artists so I'm excited to see everything that they update with that.
🍌BanAnakin:
Yeah, and how was that? How responsive were they to your feedback?
🖼️Alyssa:
Aaron really wants it to be amazing because it's his baby. He's put all of his time and energy into this and he's an artist himself, he really gets it because he's creating from the artist perspective and the technology perspective… and you know, it’s just in the very early stages. I'm excited to see everything he does with it.
🍌BanAnakin:
Yes! You were the first artist to interact and create on the canvas. I think that's so awesome. You're gonna have your picture, or your art in the SuprSketch pantheon. So, one more question. What would you say to an artist that is considering working with SuprSketch and doing an exhibition?
🖼️Alyssa:
I mean, I think my advice to artists is always just do what feels right for you and feels aligned to you. I think it's a very personal thing, but from my experience it's been amazing, and I think it could be a great way for artists to make money on the side while also allowing subscribers or collectors to see a bit more of their process without being too invasive. It’s not video streaming so there's not a camera on you: it still feels like you're just creating by yourself. AND at the same time letting people into your process a little more. I think it's a great way to connect with people, there's so many different things you can do with it.
